Theo Massop brings a special kind of rhythm and groove, rolling with a dash of reggae and rock with roots that run deep. An alternative to the usual fare of musical mediocrity, music and lyrics that moves your body and stirs your soul.
Born from an approach to making music you can understand, Theo draws from the styles of acts such as Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and Steve Earle — further shaking up this musical approach with flavours of reggae, blues, folk, country and straight ahead rock, all performed without pretension and from the heart.
A west coast Canadian singer-songwriter whose musical journey has taken him from church choirs to dance halls, night clubs, festivals and concert venues. His previous album Voyager gained him three charting singles in Canada, critical acclaim and international radio play.
Theo's albums include Choices (2006), The Answer with his band BoodAbooM (2012), Love Is The Answer, and his latest release Reflections of Change (April 2024). All have enjoyed extensive airplay and praise from radio programmers and reviewers around the world.
Regardless if it is a festival, a dinner show, a house concert, solo or with a band, you will experience a professionally presented show combining original music with current and classic hits to amaze you. Whether performing as a soloist or with accompaniment, Theo presents a musical performance that will seem like a memorable trip to a foreign land — tales and reflections of travel, observations mirrored in songs about love, life, laughter, happiness and sorrow.

Massop is an able folk/pop writer. His songs have a contemporary polish and a measure of sophistication. He writes homilies with a rock edge whose wisdom occasionally hits the ground like a hundred pound rail.
Tom Harrison · Vancouver Province

Rick Salt · Blue Truck Hotel Studio
Simply unforgettable. Another fine selection of top quality songwriting and songcraft. It is a golden record from top to bottom.
Thomas Hilton · Aldora Britain Records, U.K.
Massop's strengths lie in intelligent lyrics, catchy mid-tempo songs and ballads.
Michael Baginski · The Entertainer Magazine
Massop has a pleasing voice and he takes the trouble to let the listener understand what he's singing about.
John Hogbin · Victoria Times Colonist
At the heart of Massop's songwriting is, well, heart. He pens songs of life experiences that can be as personal as the loss of a loved one. Massop's music has been described as roots, rock, country, Americana, folk, blues and various admixtures of those wide-ranging genres.
Those who showed up were treated to a show of intricate yet accessible songcraft by performers comfortable in their musical skins. Massop's low and occasionally growling vocals were offset by high-register harmonies and occasional input by his bandmates.
Massop's set included hints of familiar artists — the Neil Young-infused Canada 1952, Gordon Lightfoot's influence on Hummingbird, the Tom Petty-esque rocker I Need Somebody, and the reggae stylings of Truth.
BoodAbooM mixes the quieter sounds of roots and reggae music with the driving edge of rock and country-rock. It's a blend that not only grabs and keeps the audience's attention, but requires a versatile group of musicians to play.
"We try to read the crowd and play what they want to hear," said band leader Theo Massop. "Sometimes it's a real mix, people want to hear dance music and ballads in the same night."
